Maredudd ab Owain

Son of Owain, husband of Elena, father of Owain, died in March 1264.^[1]

Father: Owain ap Gruffudd ap Lord Rhys

Wife: Eleanor (Elena). "The heralds call her Eleanor, daughter of Maelgwm ap Maelgwn ap Lord Res"^[2]

Died: "Maredudd son of Owain son of Gruffudd son of the lord Rhys" died in Mar 1264 "at Llanbardarn the Great and was buried in the chapter house of the monks of Strata Florida"^[4]

When Maredudd died, his "territory... was divided between 'his sons Owen, Griffith and Cynan'."^[5]

Owain, not Owen, based on Behind the Name defining Owen as "from the Welsh given name Owain"

Geni confusion: An entry (since deleted) for "Owain-ap-Maredudd-Lord-of-South-Wales" showed his son Owain born 1230 (noting he was 45 at his death, known to be 1275, but no source for age at death). That same Geni entry showed son Owain married to Maredudd's wife "Elen verch Maelgwn Fychan," while another Geni entry (with Owain born 1243), shows "Elen verch Maelgwn Fychan" as his mother/Maredudd's wife. Possibly the deletion of the first entry was to resolve the confusion.
